The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) has commended Acting President Goodluck Jonathan and the National Assembly on the signing of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development Bill into law.

Astatement from NSE's President, Engr. Olumuyiwa Alade Ajibola, said there is no doubt that this is a landmark achievement in the history of the Nigerian Oil and gas industry that would revolutionise the sector and create a solid foundation for building of the indigenous capacities and creation of wealth.

"It is heart-warming that the law provides very clear guidelines on monitoring the implementation of the provisions by various players in the Oil and Gas Sector and the Federal Government should give the law the needed teeth. The Nigerian Society of Engineers will provide the necessary support to Government in the implementation of the provisions of the law.

The society calls on the Federal Government to quickly constitute the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board provided for by the act to develop procedures that will guide, monitor, coordinate and facilitate the implementation of the law.

In this regard we hereby call on all players in the sector- Regulatory Agencies, Operators, Contractors, Alliance Partners and other entities to abide by the provisions of the law.
