NEW DELHI: Nigeria has responded positively to India's request for increased crude supply from the African nation.

Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Murli Deora had put forth India's request in a meeting with Emmanuel O. Egbogah, special advisor to Nigerian president on petroleum matter, in a meeting here on Wednesday.

"Emanuel responded positively and said that Indian side should send a formal proposal for government to government agreement in this regard," said a government press release.

India imports about 13 million metric tonnes from Nigeria annually. The African country plans to increase its production from 2.7 million barrels of crude to 4 million barrels per day by 2012.

Besides, India also expressed interest in exporting natural gas from Nigeria.

The two delegations also reviewed progress in two exploration blocks where Oil and Natural Gas Corporation's (ONGC) overseas arm, ONGC Videsh Limited , has participating interests.
